JOHNSTOWN — UPJ torpedoes Bluefield State

Pitt-Johnstown used a 19-5 run over an eight-minute span of the first half to roll in an 89-62 WVIAC win over Bluefield State in the Sports Center.

Nick Novak scored a game-high 23 points while Ian Vescovi had 19 points and 12 rebounds for 3-1 UPJ (1-1 in the WVIAC). Jordan Miller had 20 points and a game-high nine assists.

Ohio State clips SFU women

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tayler Hill scored 23 points and the No. 16 Ohio State women pulled away in the second half for a 70-54 victory over St. Francis.

The Buckeyes (3-1) got double-figure scoring from four others. 

Amber Stokes had 12 points and Darryce Moore, Martina Ellerbe and Ameryst Alston added 10 apiece.

Despite that balance and Hill’s sharpshooting, the Red Flash (3-1) trailed just 32-29 at halftime. Then, the Buckeyes began to wear down St. Francis.

Alli Williams led the Red Flash with 16 points before fouling out. Alexa Hayward chipped in 13 and Shene Fleming 11.

St. Francis, just 4 of 16 on

3-pointers, was whistled for 22 fouls to eight for Ohio State. The Buckeyes had a big edge at the foul line, going 17 for 28 to 6 of 8 for St. Francis. Hill (8 for 10) hit two more foul shots than the St. Francis team.

 

St. Francis men will host Colgate

LORETTO – St. Francis University opens its 12-game home slate tonight when Colgate visits DeGol Arena for a 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Eve match up.

The one-game stop in Loretto breaks up a string of six straight road games for the Red Flash.

St. Francis (0-3) is 32-7 in home openers at the Stokes Center. Steph Wyatt’s 16.3 points a game ranks sixth in the NEC. Ollie Jackson’s 16 points a game ranks seventh.

The Raiders are 2-3, including a road win over Coppin State on Sunday and a win at home against Marist. Colgate opened the season with losses to Illinois and Marquette.
