Boy, 12, pulled from creek now critical

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH A 12-year-old boy who fell into a deep creek at a Pittsburgh park and was under water for about 20 minutes remains in critical condition at Children’s Hospital of UPMC.

Police say Malei Jones, of Swissvale, was looking for snakes, tadpoles and frogs along Nine Mile Run in Frick Park when he entered the water Tuesday afternoon. Police say they don’t know if he fell into the creek or jumped in and tried to swim.

One of three children with Jones called 911 about 6:20 p.m. and police and divers arrived to search the murky waters. A city patrolman pulled the boy from the creek in an area where the water was about eight feet deep.
