Pittsburgh firefighter jailed on child-sex charges

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh firefighter has been suspended and jailed after being charged with sexually assaulting a child under 13, including some allegations that date to 1996.

Chief Darryl Jones says 48-year-old Martin Flora has been suspended and he was arraigned Wednesday on charges including indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Flora who faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 15.

He remained jailed Thursday unable to post $200,000 bond on the charges.

The chief says Flora faces a trial board hearing on his suspension. That board can also recommend that Flora be fired.

Flora has been a city firefighter since 2001. The chief says Flora’s alleged behavior is “against all that we stand for.”
