Woman gets 7-14 years in newborn's killing

HONESDALE —

A northeastern Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to seven to 14 years behind bars for her role in the murder of her newborn daughter.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jennifer Barrise pleaded guilty in September to third-degree murder in the May 2011 death of her daughter, Jacqueline. Barrise was sentenced Thursday in Wayne County Court.

The baby's father dropped a cinder block on her just hours after her birth. Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Fitzpatrick told investigators they couldn't afford to keep the child. Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.

Authorities say Barrise knew of Fitzpatrick's plan to kill their daughter.
