Clearfield senior facility destroyed by fire

CLEARFIELD — Officials say a fire earlier this week at a senior living facility in central Pennsylvania caused between $3 million and $5 million in damage and that the building is a total loss.

The Centre Daily Times reports the cause of Monday's fire at Colonial Courtyard in Clearfield is still under investigation. It happened during a lightning storm, but it's still not clear if the weather was related to the fire, which displaced dozens of residents.

Lawrence Township Fire Chief Elliott Neeper says employees heard a loud boom around 7 p.m. and that some building systems were knocked out. While crews were handling that, people in the area noticed flames.

Residents were relocated Monday night. No injuries were reported.
