Water main break floods Pittsburgh shopping center

PITTSBURGH — A water main break has flooded parts of a Pittsburgh shopping center, closing a supermarket and other businesses.

The Pennsylvania American Water Co. says it hopes to repair the main and restore service in and around the Banksville Plaza by Monday afternoon.

The Allegheny County Health Department must inspect the Kuhn’s supermarket before it reopens, though Kuhn’s president Joe Dentici says he hopes that will happened by late morning.

The break was reported about 6 a.m. and flooded an area behind the plaza, causing water to rise more than four feet behind the building, which flooded the supermarket and several other businesses.

The plaza is along and is named for Banksville Road, a busy artery which runs south of downtown. The road remained open.
