Allegheny forest snowmobile trails to open Dec. 21

WARREN — The first day of winter will also mark the first day for snowmobiles in northwestern Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service says the trails will open Dec. 21.

Officials warn that many snowmobile trails include sections of joint-use roads, meaning other vehicles, snowshoers, skiers and snow groomers might also be using the trails.

Allegheny National Forest is located in Warren, McKean, Forest and Elk counties.

Snowmobilers can for snowmobile trail conditions, which will be updated Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. That phone number is 814-723-5150, after which callers must select – in this order  – option 2, option 1, then option 3.
