Pa. man gets up to 10 years for sex with teen

SCRANTON — A northeasternern Pennsylvania man is going to prison after admitting to carrying on a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton reports that Lackawanna County Judge Vito Geroulo sentenced Haen Peter Ayala on Wednesday to five to 10 years in prison. Ayala pleaded guilty in August to aggravated indecent assault of a person younger than 16 and simple assault.

Police learned of Ayala’s relationship with the teen in May when police say Ayala assaulted his wife after she accused him of having the affair and confronted him with text messages between the two.

Old Forge police charged the 31-year-old Ayala in June.

Defense attorney David Cherundolo says Ayala’s past includes childhood sexual abuse and drug use, but says Ayala takes responsibility for what happened.
