Jet skier missing in Allegheny River

PITTSBURGH — Emergency crews have been searching for a man missing since he fell off a jet ski on the Allegheny River over the weekend.

Authorities in Armstrong County said the 40-year-old Penn Hills man was circling a pontoon near Murphy Island when he and a young boy riding with him fell off.

South Buffalo fire chief Randall Brozenick said the boy, who was wearing a life vest, managed to swim to the boat and was pulled from the water. But officials said the man didn’t have his life vest fastened and slipped out of it.

Emergency dispatchers said rescue units were called to the scene at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday and searched until 9 p.m., saying they planned to resume the effort Monday.
