A chain-reaction crash involving an estimated 50 vehicles continued to close the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Clearfield County, though eastbound lanes in the same area have reopened.
The 13-mile eastbound stretch between the Clearfield and Phillipsburg exits ireopened about 10 a.m. The westbound lanes were expected to remain closed until early Wednesday afternoon.
PennDOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin says the westbound lanes were closed due to a 50-vehicle pileup involving several tractor-trailers and one gasoline tanker that crashed near the Clearfield exit.
About 50 miles farther east, one westbound lane of I-80 between Lock Haven and Loganton reopened by midmorning, and the other lane was expected to open by 11 a.m. That is in Clinton County.
Rain falling on still-frozen ground caused the icy conditions.
There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.
