Pennsylvania gets ready for some winter weather

Associated Press

Snow is falling in parts of western and central Pennsylvania, and the eastern half of the state is preparing for what forecasters are describing as a minor storm.

Predictions call for 1 to 3 inches across much of Pennsylvania through Saturday morning.

Snow is falling steadily in Pittsburgh and should reach Philadelphia and Scranton by mid- to late-afternoon Friday.

Hundreds of schools statewide announced early dismissals, while at least one judge in Pittsburgh is planning to send jurors home early.

The flakes cap a week of frigid temperatures. In northeastern Pennsylvania, authorities say a man has been found dead in his unheated home.

The Pocono Record reports 71-year-old Walter Elwine was found Thursday. Officials say his wood-burning stove hadn't been used recently. An autopsy is planned.
