SWAT team seeks suspect in Wal-Mart shooting

NEW CASTLE — Police and a SWAT team have surrounded a home where a man suspected of shooting a woman outside a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart is believed to be hiding.

Troopers say the dead woman is 22-year-old Mariah Anderson, of New Castle, and they’ve yet to publicly name the suspect.

But police say the SWAT incident several miles away in New Brighton is related to the shooting.

Anderson worked at the discount store in neighboring Union Township and was shot as she got into her sport-utility vehicle about 11:15 p.m. Sunday. She was rushed to Jameson Hospital in New Castle where she was pronounced dead.

Police say at least five shots were fired and Anderson was shot in the face.

The store is located about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
