NEW CASTLE —
A western Pennsylvania man who was shot by police has been charged with taking a hostage and firing guns inside his home before exchanging fire with officers.
The New Castle News reports Tuesday that 43-year-old Ivy Lanthier Jr. remained in critical condition at a Youngstown, Ohio, hospital where he’s been since the incident early Friday in New Castle. That’s about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, a few miles from the Ohio border.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Lanthier who is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and other crimes. Police went to Lanthier’s house about 9:30 p.m. Thursday after he reportedly held his daughter’s boyfriend at gunpoint, ordered his family to leave and fired guns into the ceiling.
Police say they shot Lanthier when he fired shots from his front door shortly after midnight.
