Cops: Indiana County men faked carjacking

INDIANA — State police say two Indiana County men concocted a story claiming they were victims of a carjacking to avoid charges relating to a hit-and-run accident.

Troopers from Indiana have mailed summonses to 18-year-old Jakeb Schrecongost and 22-year-old Jessie Wood. The men, both of whom are from Indiana, allegedly told police on May 2 that they were accosted by an armed hitchhiker who stole their pickup after forcing them out of the vehicle.

Police say they later found the truck crashed on Route 422 near Route 119.

But police now say that story was a ruse to cover up the fact that the men crashed the truck and left the scene.

Online court records don’t list attorneys for the men who have been charged with filing false reports to law enforcement and charges relating to underage drinking.
