Attorney: Self-defense an issue in Altoona club death

ALTOONA — A defense attorney says self-defense will be an issue in the trial of a man charged in a shooting death at a Pennsylvania nightclub on Halloween night.

Attorney Thomas Dickey made the comments after meeting Wednesday with Hugo Baez, who is charged in Blair County with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 22-year-old Willie Solomon at Choices Nightclub in Altoona.

Authorities allege that Baez had clashed with the victim’s brother and followed him when he headed for the door. Police said Solomon then followed Baez and grabbed him near the exit before Baez pulled out a revolver and fired up to five shots.

Dickey told The (Altoona) Mirror that more investigation needs to be done but “It very well looks like this is a case of self-defense.”
