Authorities say a Pittsburgh police officer shot a motorist who dragged him more than 100 yards when fleeing a traffic stop.
Police say the motorist was undergoing surgery for multiple gunshot wounds following the incident Sunday night in the Highland Park neighborhood. The officer underwent treatment for hand and arm injuries.
Deputy Chief Paul Donaldson says the suspect put the car in gear after being approached by two officers and one of the officers tried to reach into the vehicle. Donaldson says the man drove off and the officer fired in self-defense.
The vehicle eventually stopped when it crashed into a home.
Police didn’t immediately identify the officer or the suspect.
