Police nab suspect in robbery of Girl Scouts

BERWYN — Police in suburban Philadelphia say a man has acknowledged robbing Girl Scouts while they sold cookies at a supermarket.

Tredyffrin Township police say 31-year-old Jevon Avis confessed to the crime after being charged elsewhere with unrelated offenses.

Officials say Avis was arrested on theft charges Monday night in the central Pennsylvania town of Carlisle, where he lives.

Investigators were able to connect him to a string of purse snatchings and thefts, including the Girl Scouts robbery on Jan. 20 outside a Tredyffrin grocery store.

Authorities say Avis reached into the troop's cash box and took $20 before fleeing. Before that, police say he took an unknown amount from a donation jar for military troops.

Avis is jailed in Cumberland County. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
