Tomahawks blanked in Michigan

PORT HURON, Mich. — The Port Huron Fighting Falcons scored four third-period goals to break open a tight NAHL game and beat the Johnstown Tomahawks 5-0 on Saturday night at McMorran Arena.

Neither team scored in the first period, and the game remained scoreless until Port Huron’s Reed Scahill found the net at 12:37 of the second period.

Matt Jones and Lucas Linville each assisted on the goal.

The Fighting Falcons found their scoring touch early in the third.

Nick LeSage tallied an unassisted goal at 2:28.

Jonathan Kopacka scored at 6:59 to make it 3-0. Bryan Yim and Zach Badalamenti had assists.

Zach Badalamenti’s power-play goal at 10:09 was set up by Lucas Little and Logan Lambdin.

Port Huron’s Matt Seidel capped the scoring outburst at 14:08 of the final period. Yim and Matt Jones notched assists.

Port Huron goaltender Max Milosek stopped all 31 shots he faced during the shutout.

Jake Moore played 44:22 for the Tomahawks and had 24 saves on 26 shots. Alex Okicki had seven saves on 10 shots.

The Tomahawks finished a string of seven consecutive games on the road since the New Year’s Eve game played at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Johnstown went 0 for 6 on the power play. Port Huron converted once in five power-play opportunities.

The Tomahawks went 2-5 during the stretch on the road.

Coach Jason Spence’s team returns to the War Memorial for games Friday (7:30 p.m.) and next Saturday  (7 p.m.) against Michigan.

The Coach Jason Spence Bobblehead giveaway will be held prior to Friday’s game.
