Employment: There are 4,577 employees. Conemaugh Health System is evaluating staffing levels and adjusting staffing to accommodate new services, increasing volume and growth.

History: Established in 1889.

General: The fiscal year 2012 operating revenue is at $523 million. In 2012, Conemaugh Health System added new technology including: New MRI, new interventional radiology room, new electrophysiology lab, new CT scanner, new pantero microscope, da Vinci robotic assisted surgery technology and digital mammography. The Conemaugh Health System continues to expand Conemaugh Physician Group, adding primary care and physician specialists to enhance convenient and quality care to the community. In 2012, an electrophysiology lab was opened at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center which offers much needed diagnostic and treatment options for patients with heart rhythm disorders. Conemaugh Health System opened primary care physician offices at the Greater Johnstown Medical Park, adding to the Conemaugh Physician Group cardiology and cardiac diagnostic services available at that location. Adding robotic assisted surgery provides another minimally invasive tool that offers many benefits for surgery patients including shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery and less blood loss.

In 2012, Conemaugh Health System was named an IMS top 100 Integrated HealthCare Network. Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center was recognized by HealthGrades as a Distinguished Hospital for clinical outcomes among the top 5 percent in the nation; America’s Best 100 Hospitals and one of HealthGrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement in 2012. In the cardiac department, recipient of the HealthGrades Coronary Intervention Excellence Award for two years in a row; ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for coronary interventional procedures for two years in a row; five-star rated for valve surgery for five years in a row; five-star rated for coronary interventional procedures for two years in a row; and five-star rated for treatment of heart attack for two years in a row.

In the orthopedic department, recipient of the HealthGrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award for two years in a row and ranked among the top 5 percent in the nation for joint replacement for two years in a row.

In the pulmonary department, recipient of the HealthGrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award for four years in a row; ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for overall pulmonary services for four years in a row; five-star rated for overall pulmonary services for four years in row; five-star rated for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2012; five-star rated for treatment of pneumonia for five years in a row.

In the vascular department, ranked No. 4 in the state for vascular surgery in 2012; and five-star rated for repair of abdominal aorta for three years in a row.

In the gastrointestinal department, recipient of the HealthGrades General Surgery Excellence Award in 2012; ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for general surgery in 2012; ranked No. 4 in the state for general surgery in 2012; five-star rated for treatment of bowel obstruction in 2012 and five-star rated for cholecystectomy in 2012.

In the critical care department, five-star rated for treatment of pulmonary embolism for three years in a row; and five-star rated for treatment of respiratory failure for two years in a row.

In the maternity care department, recipient of the HealthGrades Maternity Care Excellence Award for three years in a row; ranked among the top 5 percent in the nation for maternity care for two years in a row; ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for maternity care for three years in a row; and five-star rated for maternity care for three years in a row.

In the women’s health department, recipient of the HealthGrades Women’s Health Excellence Award for 2011; ranked among the top five percent in the nation for women’s health for 2011; and five-star rated for women’s health for 2011.

Technological advancements continue to provide convenient, high quality options for patients without having to leave home.
