Old Blue Eyes has entered the building.
“It Was a Very Good Year” Tribute to Frank Sinatra will be presented at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Richland Performing Arts Center, One Academic Ave., Richland Township.
Tony Sands, who portrays Sinatra, has been getting rave reviews and playing to sold-out audiences on his national tour, said Scott D. Miller, arts center executive director.
“Tony was here last year for the Rat Pack show and loved our facility and our students,” Miller said.
“He called us and wanted to come back.”
What makes Sands’ show different is a video wall he uses as a backdrop.
The story of Sinatra’s life from the time he was a baby will play on the screen as Sands narrates his life story and sings Sinatra’s top hits.
“His story is unfolding on the screen,” Miller said. There are scenes from his days in Las Vegas.
“This is not typically done. This is exciting to do this show.”
The multimedia show will take fans from Sinatra’s early days with Tommy Dorsey to the bright lights of New York City and the silver screen of Hollywood, leading up to his “main event” comeback.
Proceeds from the show will benefit Richland Theater Boosters.
Sands caught the Sinatra bug as a child growing up in a South Philly neighborhood.
When he was 12 or 13 years old, he wanted to sing, and his family played Sinatra records all the time, so he began to sing along.
The next thing he knew, he fell in love with Sinatra’s music.
Sands’ favorite Sinatra tune is “Luck Be a Lady.”
Sands has performed at many Manhattan restaurants, Zanzibar Blue Jazz Club in Philadelphia, Ritz Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia, Harvard Club in New York City, Breakers Hotel in Ocean City, Md., and Trump Castle and Casino, Harrah’s Hotel and Casino and Tropicana Casino and Resort Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J.
