Events | Art's ally

The 2013 spring juried exhibition of Allied Artists of Johnstown will be on display during regular banking hours through April 20 at AmeriServ Financial, Main and Franklin streets in downtown Johnstown.

The exhibition features 37 works from 21 artists and spotlights a variety of pieces, including photography, watercolor, acrylic, oil, metal, clay, recycled glass, pencil and mixed-media.

Taste of West Hills

The West Hills Community Team will hold its inaugural Night of Community Spirits from 7 to 10 tonight at the former Johnstown Brewing Co., 942 Pinegrove Lane, just off Menoher Boulevard.

The event will feature a presentation of wine tastings by B&L Wine Cellars of Johnstown and beer tastings by Von’s Beverages.

Proceeds will be used to fund community events and needs.

Tickets are $25 per person and should be ordered in advance, and all attendees will receive a complimentary wine glass.

Strike up the bands

Ringgold Band and Messiah College Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

The Ringgold Band is one of America’s first community bands with a heavy leaning to Sousa march tunes.

Messiah College Jazz Ensemble plays a mix of styles ranging from classic swing and traditional big band to modern arrangements.

Admission is free.

Artful benefit

“Art Defines You” fundraiser will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Art Works in Johnstown! 413 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

The public is invited to bring a favorite piece of art they have created or collected to display for the event.

Those who wish to enjoy the one-day art show do not have to bring a piece of art to attend.

Guests will receive complimentary adult beverages and hors d’oeuvres.  

Johnstown Americana band Whiskey River Panhandlers will perform at 9:30.

Admission is $25 per adult for the entire evening or $10 for the concert only.

Pitt-Johnstown jazz ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Pitt-Johnstown concert choir and concert band will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

Admission is free for both concerts.
