Turkey Trotter to benefit cerebral palsy group

JOHNSTOWN — Alleghenies United Cerebral Palsy Foundation is holding its 10th annual Turkey Trotter Dance Saturday at New Germany Grove Hall, 1635 New Germany Road.

The event will feature a dinner, dance and live auction.

AUCP offers support for individuals with physical disabilities as well as in-home personal care.

Proceeds from the event go to support the consumer activities program, which provides weekly activities for the organization’s consumers.

“This is not the largest fundraiser that AUCP puts together, but this event is the consumer’s favorite,” said Julie Bratton of Bedford, fundraising consultant.

“They can dance and participate along with their family, friends and caregivers.”

Past events have been well attended with as many as 390 patrons enjoying the festivities.

“We are holding this year’s event at the New Germany Grove Hall as a change in venue,” Bratton said.

“The hall can hold up to 400 people.”

Tickets are $25 each, which includes a turkey and ham dinner with all the fixings, beverages, drinks, dessert and live entertainment.

“The food will be homemade by the ladies of the (Immaculate Conception) parish, turkey and ham with all the fixings as well as our usual homemade gob cake for dessert,” Bratton said.

“Coffee, water, soda, beer and wine are included in the price of the ticket.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7.

“Usually from 6 to 7 p.m., people are buying raffle tickets, getting their drinks and talking with others,” Bratton said.

Music will be provided from 8 p.m. to midnight by Johnstown Classic Rockers.

“The Johnstown Classic Rockers are a great band to dance to, and our consumers enjoy playing the bells or tambourines to help the band out,” she said.

The event attracts patrons not only from Johnstown, but also from the Bedford and Altoona area.

“It’s truly an evening of pure excitement for our consumers, and to see them enjoying themselves, you can’t help but have a great time with them,” Bratton said.

The event also will feature a live auction and door prizes.

Tickets are available at the AUCP office, 119 Jari Drive, Richland Township, or the Corner Coffee Shoppe, 810 Scalp Ave., Geistown.
