Religion in brief | Calvary UM hosting movie night

Community movie night will be offered at 6:30 Saturday with the showing of “Facing the Giants” at Calvary United Methodist Church, 239 W. Church St., Somerset.

Snacks will be available starting at 6.

One-night revival set for Sunday

A one-night revival will be held at 7 Sunday at Lighthouse Morning Star Ministries, 4886 Route 240 Highway, Cherry Tree.

Prophet Tim Colisino will be the guest speaker, along with his wife, Apostle Sharon Johnson Colisino.

Roxbury St. Paul’s to hold day of prayer

World Day of Prayer, an ecumenical celebration of informed prayer and prayerful action, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown.

Women from 10 different local churches will participate.

The service is sponsored by Johnstown Council Church Women United.

Arbutus church

The Rev. Eric Kabler, guest minister, will deliver the message “Father, Forgive Them, For They Do Not Know ...,” with Scripture from Luke 23:26-46, during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday worship service at Arbutus Church of the Brethren, 1201 Erickson Drive, Johnstown.

Otis Simpson will serve as worship leader. Jane Wolfhope will provide special music. Audrey Block will be the greeter.

Belmont UM

Beulah UM

The Rev. Jeffrey Popson will deliver the message “Rejection,” based on Luke 13:31-35, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Beulah United Methodist Church, 716 Bedford St., Johnstown.

A contemporary service will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by Sunday school at 9:25.

Christ UM

The Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck will speak on “Like a Mother Hen,” based on Luke 13:31-35, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Christ United Methodist Church, Ohio Street and Cypress Avenue in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

The adult choir will sing “Through It All,” under the direction of organist and choir director Hariett Miller.

Beverly Rager will be the worship leader.

Community church

The Rev. Charles H. Zimmerman will bring the message “No Family Left Behind” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Community Open Door Church, Menoher Boulevard and Luzerne Street, Johnstown.

A special guitar accompaniment and reading rendition of “When Jesus Calls All His Children In” will conclude the service.

Marlene Beckwith will bring the children’s message.

Conemaugh church

“The Mountain Mover,” with Scripture from Matthew 16:14-21, will be the sermon during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Conemaugh Church of the Brethren, 1256 William Penn Ave., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Children’s church and nursery will be available.

Women’s Bible study on Hebrews will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Rev. Len Findley will share the message “Stress With a Capital ‘P,’ ” with Scripture from Psalm 27, at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at Faith United Methodist Church, 369 Glessner Road, Johnstown.

World Day of Prayer will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday. A luncheon will follow.

Ferndale UM

The Rev. Len Findley, pastor of Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown, will deliver the message “Stress with a Capital ‘P,’ ” with Scripture from Psalm 27, at the 10:40 a.m. Sunday service.

The choir will sing “Leaning on Jesus,” directed by Traci Weaver.

Beverly Hoover will be the worship leader.

Karen O’Bryon and Joyce Schalles will be the greeters.

Schalles and Cassie Antesberger will be the nursery helpers.

First Lutheran

Pastor Eleanor Abarno will preach on Luke 13 and celebrate Holy Communion at 5:30 tonight and 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown.

“The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus,” a class for adults, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Other adult classes, including “What Wondrous Love” will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and the small catechism at noon Thursday.

A supper will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday. A prayer service and Holy Communion will follow.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Cynthia Cadenhead will deliver the sermon “Mustering the Courage to Trust” at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Somerset Ave., Windber.

Eloise Romano will serve as the choir director and organist.

First UM

The Rev. Larry Rowe will deliver the sermon “You’ve Got Mail,” with Scripture from Psalm 27, during the 9:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First United Methodist Church, 436 Vine St., Johnstown.

Following the children’s  message, the children will be dismissed for Sunday school.

Adult Sunday school will begin at 11.

A shared Bible study will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Grace Brethren

Pastor Rick Horner will speak on “America Still Great: But Losing Strength Fast” at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Grace Brethren Church, Oak and Second streets, East Conemaugh.

Grove Avenue UM

The Rev. Ed Schoeneck will deliver the message “The Way Around,” taken from Luke 13:31-35, during the Sunday services at Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 Grove Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

A contemporary worship service, with music provided by Eclectic Praise Band under the direction of Denise Baldwin, will begin at 9, followed by fellowship.

Adult Sunday school will begin at 9:15. Children and youth Sunday schools will begin at 9:30.

A traditional worship service will begin at 10:45, with Judy Custer, organist and choir director, leading the choir in singing an anthem.

Nursery will be available with Mandy Gonzales, nursery coordinator.

A community labyrinth walk will be held today beginning with a brief introduction and an explanation of labyrinth protocol at 2 p.m.

A worship service will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Main St., Berlin.

Johnstown Fellowship

Pastor Gary L. Tustin will speak about “The Cross ... the Place and the Passion” during the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, 3429 Elton Road.

Pastor Denny Forosisky will hold Sunday school at 9:30.

Laurel Trinity

The cathedral choir will sing two anthems.

Moxham Lutheran

A Lenten forum will begin at 9:45.

A Lenten supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by choir rehearsal at 6:15 and worship at 7:15.

Park Avenue UM

Pleasant Hill

A meeting of the Baptist Youth Fellowship and interested youth will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 205 Peelor St., Johnstown.

The BYF Review and Pizza Party will reorganize the BYF and help the youth make plans for activities.

The sermon will be preached each week by one of the church’s associate ministers.

Roxbury church

The Rev. Brian N. Simmons will speak on “Being Receptive to God,” with Scripture from Luke 13:31-35 and Psalm 27:5, at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown.

The cathedral choir will sing “He Will Carry You,” directed by Melanie Shiley and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist.

Summit Chapel UM

The Rev. John H. Weaver will use the Lenten series “A Changed Heart” and preach on “Living God’s Way,” based on Philippians 3:17-4:1, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown.

Jody Bassaro will be the worship leader.

The chancel choir will sing “By the Foot of the Cross,”  directed by Dale Wicks and accompanied by Carol Gresh and David Price as the pianist.

The Gospel for Children is titled “Living with Jesus.”

Adult Sunday school will begin at 10:30.

Walnut Grove
