Choruses schedule concert

JOHNSTOWN — It’s time for the youngest vocalists connected with Johns-town Symphony Orchestra to step forward.

The fall concert of Inclined to Sing and Apprentice Choir, the children’s choruses of the symphony, will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1000 Scalp Ave., Richland Township.

The two choirs feature more than 40 children ages 5 through 15.

The singers will perform Renaissance to contemporary music for treble voices.

Selections will include traditional rounds and canons, such as “Velvet Shoes” by Randall Thompson and “Sound the Trumpet” by Henry Purcell.

Audience members also will hear holiday classics.

The Apprentice Choir for children in kindergarten through grade 4 is directed by Andrea Mulligan. Inclined to Sing, for children in grades 5-9, is directed by Kim Rauch.

Both choirs practice Tuesdays at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.

The Apprentice Choir meets at 4:30 p.m., and Inclined to Sing meets at 5:30.

Alumni leadership from the intern program provides vocal leadership and allows the more experienced singers to act as mentors to the younger singers.

This year’s interns are Karissa Conant, Lee Matthews, Brittany Szczepanik and Tabitha Weaver.
