County controller: Wait to approve 2014 salaries, secure $5M refinancing deal

Disagreements surrounding the proposed 2014 Cambria County budget were aired Thursday at the regular Cambria County commissioners meeting held at Ferndale High School. It was the first official presentation of the budget, which will be on display to the public until a formal adoption on Dec. 19.

In the only “nay” of the evening, Cambria County Controller Ed Cernic Jr. voted against adoption of next year’s salary schedule, citing budget shifts that could occur between now and the end of the year and warning against hasty action.

“This has not been done like this in the 10 years I’ve been controller,” Cernic said, adding later that the schedules have always been approved at the last meeting of the year and that the county is “locked in” now.

Read more, including first details on a fix for the remainder of the county's 2013 Tax Anticipation Loan, in Friday's Tribune-Democrat.
