UPDATE: Windber house gutted

WINDBER — WINDBER -- An afternoon fire gutted an 11th Street home today, responders said.

Fire crews from more than a half dozen stations, including Windber, battled the fire - and heat - for nearly two hours before snuffing the blaze, Windber Fire Chief Aaron Cicon said.

The two-story house was home to a Windber woman and five children - but none were believed to be at home when the fire sparked, he added.

Cicon confirmed two firefighters were taken to area hospitals for treatment but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

The cause of the fire was unknown this afternoon, he said.  A state police fire marshal was called to the scene.
