A Johnstown man who police said badly beat a another man with a pipe or blackjack in a dispute over a woman will appear in Cambria County Court, charged with attempted homicide.
Dominick Michael Sunseri, 42, of the 1100 block of Otto Court, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Leonard Grecek of Roxbury.
In a criminal complaint, Dale Borough police allege Sunseri struck William McGowan with a pipe or blackjack at a Cummins Street residence April 19. Witnesses said “they could hear loud cracks” during the assault.
McGowan told police he was “scuffling” with another man over a woman when “Mike” came from nowhere and began striking him in the head with a club or blackjack.
Witnesses said the attacker continued striking the victim after he fell to the ground while the woman tried to shield him.
Police said when they arrived at the home they found a large pool of blood on the table in the dining room area and McGowan holding a towel to the left side of his head.
McGowan, whose age and address were not given, was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.
Assistant District Attorney Tamara Bernstein said McGowan is out of the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
Sunseri also is charged with reckless endangerment, harassment, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and simple assault.
He is free on bond. Sunseri is being represented by James J. Geibig of Greensburg.
