Greater Johnstown schools transferring pre-K, daycare operations; Zahorchak announces retirement

— The Greater Johnstown school board announced its intention to end operation of its pre-K and daycare programs at a special meeting Saturday morning.

The programs will be operated by Cambria County Child Development Corporation as of the 2014-15 school year, a move that will save the district approximately $1.6 million, according to Superintendent Gerald Zahorchak.

In other district business, Zahorchak announced he will be retiring from the district, effective at the end of the next school year. Also, Business Manager John Zahorchak will be resigning from the administration, after accepting a job with another school district.

The board also approved its 2014-15 budget of $47,177,306. Tax levies wil remain at 46.8 mills.
