Apache lands safely at Johnstown airport

Was in distress after engine failed

JOHNSTOWN — An Apache helicopter with the National Guard unit at the Johnstown airport landed safely just before 7 p.m. after reporting that it was in distress Wednesday evening.

One of the helicopter’s engines was reported to have failed, said Richland Township Fire Chief Bob Hellelfinger. Two personnel were aboard the aircraft, he said.

The pilot of the helicopter landed in a safe manner without incident, he said.

After the landing, the military took over the scene and released the fire department.

The helicopter is based with the Guard’s 1-104th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion.
