Penn State’s Bryce Jordan to close for repairs

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center will close for roof and floor repairs following commencement exercises on May 10 and won’t reopen until Aug. 16, when another graduation ceremony is scheduled for students who finish their degrees over the summer.

Bernie Punt, the arena’s director of sales and marketing, tells the Centre Daily Times that workers need to replace the 19-year-old facility’s concrete floor. The facility’s roof, masonry and lightning protection system also need work.

Punt says bids for the work are still being considered. The Office of Physical Plant’s website says the work will cost about $4.5 million.

State College Area High School’s graduation is the only event being rescheduled due to the work. That event, in June, is being moved to the university’s Pegula Ice Arena.
