School piano repairman caught in sex sting

BELLE VERNON — Police have charged a piano repairman at a western Pennsylvania charter school with arranging a sexual tryst with an undercover police officer posing online as a 14-year-old girl.

The attorney for 64-year-old Theodore Mamel, of Export, Westmoreland County, didn’t immediately comment Friday, as Mamel remained jailed on charges including unlawful contact with a minor.

Mamel was arrested Wednesday night when he drove to Belle Vernon where he had arranged to meet the girl.

Southwest Regional Police Chief John Hartman says police contacted Mamel after he posted a Craigslist ad seeking teen girls who want “to try new things with an older man. Age no barrier.”

Police say Mamel did some instrument repair work at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Beaver County. Police were attempting to determine if he had unlawful contact with other teens.
