Sewer workers make gruesome discovery

Fetus found during maintenance

JOHNSTOWN — Authorities are searching for whoever flushed a fetus down the toilet in East Conemaugh Borough.

Borough workers made the gruesome discovery Tuesday while working on sewer lines.

The male fetus about 20 weeks to 25 weeks old, Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwaitkowski said today.

“They were doing sewer maintenence on a section to be pumped out,” he said.

Kwaitkowski said it was possibly the result of a spontaneous abortion or miscarriage.

The mother may not even have known she was pregnant, he said.
