Summer music

The Summer Concert Series at Peoples Natural Gas Park will continue at 7 tonight with folk singer Chris Smither and special guests Striped Maple Hollow.

Striped Maple Hollow is a four-piece acoustic Americana group from Johnstown.

Tickets for the concert are $15 in advance plus handling fees or $22 at the door.

Firefighters' fete

The 91st annual Cambria County Firemen’s Convention will continue today and Saturday at the Ferndale Jubilee grounds along Ferndale Avenue.

Highlights will include a bucket brigade competition at 6 p.m. today and a parade at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Portrait art

A collection of portraits by local artist Marcene Glover will be on display beginning Thursday at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Ebensburg celebration

Ebensburg Homecoming will kick off a day early with a Downtown Shutdown from 7 to 11 tonight on the streets of downtown Ebensburg.

Center and High streets will be shut down a block in each direction from the center light in downtown, and outside dining will be available.

Midnight Special will perform a free concert of classic hits from the ’70s and ’80s from 8 to 11 on the street.

Ebensburg Homecoming will be held Saturday at sites throughout downtown Ebensburg and Lake Rowena.

Admission is free.

Outdoor art

A Wet Paint Weekend will be held today through Sunday at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto on the campus of St. Francis University.

The event begins at 9 a.m. today with artists painting at outdoor sites.

A wet sale and exhibition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday will allow the public a chance to purchase the paintings.

The cost is $30, and registration will be taken today.

Bedford County Fair will wind down today and Saturday at the fairgrounds on West Pitt Street, west of downtown Bedford on business Route 30.

One-price admission of $9 includes all midway rides, exhibitions and grandstand shows. Weekly walk-around tickets are $17.

The Friends of the Cambria County Library Inclined to Read Bookstore will be selling cookbooks of all types for $1 through Tuesday at the Cambria County Library, 248 Main St. in downtown Johnstown.

Bookstore hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
