2 injured, 100 involved in St. Francis fracas

Police: Football, soccer players involved in fight

LORETTO — Two people were taken to the hospital for injuries they received in a fight early Sunday at a St. Francis University apartment building, state police reported.

About 100 people were involved in the fracas involving football players and soccer players, state police at Ebensburg said in a press release.

The verbal altercation became physical about 2 a.m. Sunday in university-owned apartments on St. Joseph Street in Loretto Borough.

A university spokeswoman said the main fight apparently involved five students, including the two who were injured.

“The three others have been sent home while the investigation is continuing,” spokeswoman Marie Young said. “We are cooperating with state police and the university is conducting its own student disciplinary investigation as well.”

The apartments are located off campus, but those involved were “definitely” St. Francis students, she said.
