Local News in Brief | McCort sets meetings for principal search

— The Bishop McCort board of trustees will hold three forums for parents and alumni to discuss qualities and qualifications they would like to see in the next McCort principal.

Meetings will be moderated by representatives from McPherson & Jacobson, the executive search firm chosen to assist with the selection process.

Meetings will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, 3 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Aug. 27 in the Holiday Inn – Downtown meeting rooms.

“The board is committed to ensuring the McCort family has a voice in this important process,” board spokesman Matthew Beynon said.

D.A. Gardill will continue to serve as acting principal until a new principal is appointed.

Former principal Ken Salem was placed on administrative leave in March and voluntarily removed himself from the school’s staff in June. Although there has been no explanation given for Salem’s removal, the action came as the McCort community was rocked by former students’ claims they they had been molested by Brother Stephen Baker.

The meetings next week are limited to parents of McCort students and alumni, Beynon stressed.

“The meetings are closed to the press,” he said.
