Bedford wrestler reaches state championship match

HERSHEY — Bedford will have a state finalist for the second consecutive season, but it will not be the same one.

Jon Gabriel pinned Reynolds’ Seth Hogue in the semifinal round of the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships tonight at the Giant Center. Gabriel will wrestle Bethlehem Catholic’s Luke Karam for the 113-pound championship on Saturday afternoon.

Karam beat Gabriel 11-0 at the King of Mountain tournament.

Gabriel will look to become Bedford’s first state champion in 50 years. Ryan Easter made the finals for the Bisons last year but lost to another Bethlehem Catholic wrestler, Darian Cruz. Easter lost in the quarterfinals today but will wrestle for a medal on Saturday.
