Man sentenced to jail in luring try

EBENSBURG — A Johnstown man who pleaded guilty last month to charges stemming from his attempts to lure two boys into a truck in Old Conemaugh Borough was sentenced Tuesday.

Richard George Norton was sentenced by Cambria County Judge Linda Fleming to 8 to 23 months in the Cambria County Prison to be followed by 12 months probation.

On March 27, Norton, 45, of Railroad Street, entered a plea to two counts of recklessly endangering, charges reduced from criminal conspiracy and luring a child.

City police arrested Norton along with co-defendant Harry Milton Jones, 74, of the 100 block of Maryland Avenue, after two boys reported that the men tried to get them into a truck.

When the boys, ages 12 and 7 at the time, attempted to ride off on their bikes, the men followed them and the older boy thought he was going to be struck.

At one point Norton repeatedly called “come here” to the boys and motioned for them to come to the truck.

Fleming ordered Norton to have no contact with the victims and to get a psychological evaluation and follow the recommendations.
