Indiana County man to trial on charges he shot ex near kids

DERRY — An Indiana County man has ordered to stand trial on charges he entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and shot her nine times while she was in bed watching television with her 15-year-old daughter, while three other siblings were at home.

A district judge ordered 51-year-old Arthur Whitfield III, of Josephine, to trial and also revoked the $250,000 he had yet to post after an older sibling there on the night of the shooting – Alisha Whitfield – told the court her father has been calling from jail asking her not to testify.

Alisha Whitfield and the younger siblings weren’t physically injured in the Dec. 1 shooting in Derry Township, that has left the suspect’s ex, 35-year-old Holly Embry, in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.
