BREAKING: No additional charges yet in baby death

WINDBER — Three-week-old Abrianna Lyric Kovalcik died early today from damages caused by lack of oxygen to her brain after the shotgun death of her mother, Caressa Kovalcik, on May 31 in Windber.

The baby was delivered by cesarean section after Caressa Kovalcik was found mortally wounded in the 19th Street apartment she shared with Denver Blough. Blough has already been charged with homicide in Caressa Kovalcik’s death and attempted homicide for the baby’s initial risk.

Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser said additional homicide charges have not been filed against Blough, but that could change with the final autopsy results. Final results could take six to eight weeks for laboratory analysis, Strasiser said.
